Philadelphia Flyers forward Matvei Michkov was involved in a car accident while vacationing in Dubai, as first reported by Alexey Shevchenko of the Russian newspaper Sport-Express on Wednesday.

According to multiple sources, per Daria Tuboltseva of RG, the incident occurred on Tuesday and involved a BMW convertible rented under Michkov’s name.

The 20-year-old was not driving the vehicle at the time of the collision. Several outlets, including The Athletic via Kevin Kurz and NBC Sports Philadelphia, reported that Michkov was a passenger in the vehicle and did not suffer any injuries.

The Flyers organization has also been made aware of the situation, according to those reports, although the franchise has yet to provide any official update.

It remains unclear whether Michkov was in the front or rear passenger seat at the time of the crash.

Tuboltseva shared a photo of the damaged vehicle. Dans Les Coulisses’ Felix Forget provided more information, relying on Shevchenko’s initial report.

“This story becomes even more worrying when we consider the context,” Forget wrote. “According to Alexey Shevchenko, who first reported this story, the details are not reassuring.

“In fact, the car that was wrecked was rented in Michkov’s name. That said, he wasn’t driving it … and that’s illegal. But that’s not the most worrying thing.”

Forget then linked to Shevchenko’s Telegram account, where the reporter “explains that there are alcohol, prostitutes and document problems involved.”

Forget adds, “In fact, Michkov ‘left the country without certain documents,’ according to (Shevchenko).”

Michkov, the No. 7 overall pick in the 2023 NHL draft, recently completed his rookie season with the Flyers. He led all NHL rookies with 26 goals and finished the year with 63 points in 80 games.
