Patriots fans and sports lovers in general were appalled by the tweet.
The Patriots are heading to the Super Bowl and one news organization, WCVB-TV Boston, tweeted out a photo it would like to take back.
The ABC affiliate tweeted a photo featuring Aaron Hernandez during his playing days with the Patriots, before his arrest and untimely death. Fans quickly noticed and called the account out on such a careless error because he hasn't played with the organization since 2012.
Shortly after, the mistake was realized and the tweet was deleted. WCVB-TV said it's working with those involved to prevent such mistakes in the future.
A news service that provides WCVB some digital content accidentally posted a pic of Aaron Hernandez in connection w/Pats AFC champ win on our social media. It's embarrassing & unacceptable. We apologize & are working w/team to correct so something like this never happens again.— WCVB-TV Boston (@WCVB) January 22, 2018
It's always good to double-check, especially when you're based in the same area as the fan base you're targeting.
