The second overall pick in 2008 is tied for the NL lead in homers and is fourth in RBIs. If the Bucs can hang on and win the NL Central, Alvarez will be a key component.

Braves outfielder Jason Heyward sustained two jaw fractures when he was struck by a 90-mph fastball from Mets left-hander Jonathon Niese on Wednesday. He will undergo surgery Thursday, and is expected to miss 4-6 weeks. We wish him a speedy recovery.

Larry Wayne “Chipper” Jones Jr., 44, did it all during his career with the Atlanta Braves — as the No. 1 overall pick in 1990, World Series champion in 1995, NL MVP in 1999 and MLB batting champion in 2008. Chipper’s new autobiography, Ballplayer, covers those bases and much more. We caught up with the switch-hitting third baseman, who will be eligible for the Hall of Fame in 2018.

Not really the Jeter-Yankees part, but the idea that teams should have their own Mt. Rushmores. Who are the four individuals that have risen above all others for each organization? The question sounds simple. Even two guys sitting in a bar can figure that out, right? Not so fast. Let the arguments begin.</p>
