The USFL regular season is over and the scene now shifts to the playoffs in Canton, Ohio. Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium will host the two semifinal matchups on Saturday as well as the inaugural USFL Championship on July 3.

The playoffs feature the two teams from each division, with this game representing the third meeting between them. The first semifinal will pit the Philadelphia Stars against the New Jersey Generals. North Division champion New Jersey won nine straight after losing its opener, including both matchups with Philadelphia (6-4). The Stars boast the USFL's top-scoring offense (26.2 ppg) while the Generals have been more balanced on both sides of the ball. New Jersey swept the season series but only outscored Philadelphia by 11 points (50-39).
The second semifinal will be between the Birmingham Stallions, champions of the South Division, and the New Orleans Breakers. The Stallions (9-1) won their first eight games before being upset in Week 9 by the Houston Gamblers. The Breakers (6-4) are just 4-4 over their last eight games and have managed just 18 points over their last three contests (1-2 in that span). That stretch includes a 10-9 loss to Birmingham, so New Orleans has shown it's capable of hanging with the Stallions. Birmingham also won the first meeting with the Breakers, 22-13 way back in Week 3.
