The USFL regular season will reach its conclusion in Week 10 with all games to be played at historic Legion Field in Birmingham, Alabama. The playoff field is set so the only thing on the line is pride and potentially draft positioning for next year, although there's been no official announcement regarding a second season (nor if there would be a draft and how it would be handled).

As for Week 10, there is one playoff preview on tap with the Philadelphia Stars and New Jersey Generals set for the first of back-to-back matchups. The Generals are the North Division champions and tied with the Birmingham Stallions for the league's best record (8-1). The Stars (6-3) have won four in a row and boast the top scoring offense (26.5 ppg), but New Jersey won the first meeting (24-16) back in Week 3 and has won eight in a row overall. Saturday's other game will find the Stallions doing something they haven't done all season — attempt to bounce back from a loss - when they take on the Tampa Bay Bandits, who saw their playoff hopes end with last week's loss to the New Orleans Breakers. After starting out 8-0, Birmingham was stunned 17-15 last Saturday by the Houston Gamblers. Still, you can label the Stallions as the most impressive team this season due to their record and the highest point differential (+62) among the eight teams.
On Sunday, the matchup between the Michigan Panthers and Pittsburgh Maulers could end up serving two, somewhat dubious, purposes. Both teams enter this game at 1-8, tied for the worst record. So not only is last place in the North Division (and overall) on the line but the No. 1 overall pick in next year's draft could be as well, assuming that there is a draft and that overall record will be used to assign the order as it is in the NFL. The Panthers' lone win this season came against the Maulers, shutting them out 24-0 back in Week 3. Then the regular season comes to a close when the surging Gamblers look to score another upset against the Breakers. Houston snapped its seven-game losing streak in dramatic fashion last week against previously undefeated Birmingham so can the Gamblers finish with back-to-back victories against a New Orleans team that may be looking ahead to facing the Stallions in the playoffs next week?
