WNBA Makes Big Caitlin Clark Announcement Ahead of First Playoff Matchup With Sun

WNBA makes Caitlin Clark announcement prior to her first career playoff game against the Sun.

The 2024 WNBA Playoffs have officially arrived after a historic regular season not only for the league as a whole, but the Indiana Fever in particular. This is much thanks to star rookie Caitlin Clark, as her historic season will go down in history as one of the best ever.

Last season, the Fever went just 13-27, good for the third-worst record in the league. This year, however, the Fever clinched themselves the sixth seed with a 20-20 record heading into the playoffs.

Clark's impact on the team, averaging 19.9 PPG, 8.4 APG, and 5.7 RPG, has led people to believe she had a case to be considered for MVP. This is largely due to her offensive impact, setting the record for most assists in a single season, and generating nearly 40 PPG every game. Even so, she's still a very solid defender.

That said, it's been the consensus throughout the whole season that Las Vegas Aces star A'ja Wilson would win the award after dominating from the jump. Regardless, fans were still very curious to see where Clark would end up in the standings.

Prior to her first career WNBA playoff game against the Connecticut Sun, the WNBA announced Wilson as their MVP, with Clark finishing fourth in MVP voting.

Though Candace Parker remains the only rookie to ever win MVP, this is still an incredible accomplishment for Clark. A few months ago she was in a tight battle with Angel Reese for the Rookie of the Year award, and now she's finished top five in MVP voting.

She truly deserves this recognition, as her countless broken records and early leadership will never be forgotten. That said, she will likely break a lot more records before she leaves the league, which will be a treat to watch.
