From the college ranks to her club career, and all the way to Team USA, midfielder Julie Ertz has been known to score goals in every uniform that she's worn. She's also picked up a few championships along the way. Heading into the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup in France, Ertz's skill set will be needed if the USWNT looks to repeat as World Cup champions. She's been a member of Team USA since 2012
Ertz started off as a member of the Under-20 team, then quickly moved up to the Under-23 squad, but she's made her biggest impact as a member of the senior team, which she's been a part of since 2013. She's also accumulated plenty of experience along the way.
Ertz has been effective throughout her career
She wore the uniform of the Santa Clara Broncos during her college years (2010-13) for whom she played in 59 games, scored 29 goals, and was credited with 18 assists. She also won 15 awards there. Since 2014 Ertz has been playing professionally for the Chicago Red Stars of the NWSL. And while in the Windy City she's posted six goals in 72 games, and she was named the NWSL Rookie of the Year in 2014. And since 2013, Ertz has registered 82 caps, 18 goals, and two assists for Team USA.
Ertz has an impressive resume of her own
Ertz was a member of the 2012 Under-20 World Cup championship team. She also played on the 2015 World Cup-winning squad, the 2015 Algarve Cup championship team, two SheBelieves Cup winners (2016, '18), a Tournament of Nations title (2018), and a CONCACAF Women's Championship (2018). Ertz also participated in the 2016 Summer Olympics.
Team USA loves the Chicago Stars
Ertz is one of four Stars players on the World Cup team which also includes fellow midfielder Morgan Brian, defender Tierna Davidson, and goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher. Like Ertz, both Brian and Naeher are making their second World Cup appearances, while Davidson is playing in her first.
Where she ranks among current USWNT players
On the current roster, Ertz's 82 caps put her in ninth place while her 18 goals place her seventh. At 27, Ertz is one of seven players between the ages of 26 and 29.
