So after a successful debut what does the XFL have in mind for Week 2? Well, it just so happens that the Week 2 matchups will either feature a pair of 1-0 teams or 0-1 teams. It doesn’t get much more straightforward than that.
The first game on Saturday pits the New York Guardians against the DC Defenders. Both teams posted convincing victories in Week 1 thanks in part to big plays by their defense. DC quarterback Cardale Jones also had a nice debut.
The other matchup of 1-0 teams has the St. Louis BattleHawks taking on the Houston Roughnecks in the final game of Week 2 on Sunday night. St. Louis already has one road upset, knocking off Dallas last week. So can the BattleHawks make it two in a row? Houston quarterback P.J. Walker tossed four touchdown passes in last week's 37-17 win over Los Angeles to claim "Star of the Week" honors.
Speaking of Los Angeles, the Wildcats will try and bounce back at home against the Renegades in the first game on Sunday. Both offenses should get a boost with quarterbacks Landry Jones (knee) and Josh Johnson (thigh) expected to make their XFL debuts after sitting out in Week 1.
And the final Week 2 matchup has the Tampa Bay Vipers making the cross-country trek to the Pacific Northwest to face the Seattle Dragons late Saturday afternoon. Both teams put up more yards than their opponent in Week 1 but the combination of stalled scoring drives, turnovers, and big plays by the opposition's defense resulted in a pair of opening losses for the Vipers and Dragons. Both teams will have an opportunity to turn things around on Sunday.
