Three weeks into the XFLseason and just one undefeated team remains. The Houston Roughnecks are the last team standing in that respect following the DC Defenders' 30-point road loss to the Los Angeles Wildcats. Will Week 4 feature more surprises?
The aforementioned Wildcats will make the trek to the Big Apple to face the reeling New York Guardians to kick things off on Saturday. After winning their opener, the Guardians have lost two in a row by a combined 47 points.
The other game on Saturday has the St. Louis BattleHawks hosting the Seattle Dragons. The BattleHawks put on a show this past Sunday for their first home game, as 29,000-plus witnessed the first kick return for a touchdown this season. The league's modified rules are one reason why fans keep showing up at games and tune in to watch on TV.
The game of the week, at least on paper, is the first one on Sunday when the undefeated Roughnecks take on the Dallas Renegades in a key XFL West showdown. Since dropping their opener, the Renegades have won two in a row as quarterback Landry Jones has taken control of the offense, which has gotten plenty of support from its running game. But Houston boasts the dynamic duo of quarterback P.J. Walker and wide receiver Cam Phillips, who have teamed up for six touchdowns through the air in the last two games alone.
Week 4 concludes with the Defenders looking to rebound against the winless Tampa Bay Vipers. The Vipers may still be seeking their first win, but they put together their best offensive showing all season last week in their 34-27 loss to Houston. Prior to that game, Tampa Bay had scored a total of 12 points with not a single offensive touchdown.
